Richmond's Changing High Street

Richmond's Changing High Street
Richmond's busy High Street

Richmond seems to be going through a busy period of change at the moment, shops that have been with us for a long time are going, but new established businesses are coming in to fill the spaces.

Zara Homes has taken over from Crew, which should help to fill the gap left by Habitat in the home furnishings department. HMV has reopened as a branch of River Island, increasing even further the range of clothes shops available in Richmond. Fatface has gone which is a shame and of course Habitat has finally closed its doors.

It is good to see that these units do not stay empty for long and I feel that is a positive sign for the town centre generally.

Richmond Walks

Richmond Walks

Richmond Heritage Guides organise a range of guided walks from June to November each year.

Guided walks are a great way to discover the Thames-side villages of Richmond, Twickenham, Kew, Petersham and Hampton in the company of a knowledgeable and local guide. We are also running a Whitton walk this year in September.

We also have some special themed walks – the Tudor Walk, The Musical Mystery Tour, World War One Walk and a Victorian Walk, plus our Literary walk.

We take you down little known lanes, off the beaten track, and help you discover the borough’s forgotten past. Whether you are a resident or a visitor, we bring alive the history of the wonderful Borough of Richmond upon Thames that you perhaps never knew existed, and share little-known anecdotes on people and places.

Richmond is only 20 minutes by train from Waterloo. No need to book, just turn up and pay the guide on the day – what could be easier!

Go on the hunt for Richmond's hidden heritage treasure

Children can hunt for historical fact packs, hidden across Richmond, as part of a borough-wide treasure hunt.

Leading up to the Heritage Festival later this year, young people can take part in the Know Your Place scheme running throughout September.

The festival celebrates the history of Richmond, with people invited to discover more about their local area.

Throughout the next few months, young explorers are challenged to find KYPcaches that have been hidden in secret locations.

Co-ordinates and clues for finding the caches can be downloaded from
